The Week in Movies discusses the last seven days in cinema, like our thoughts on Captain America: Civil War, the Inhumans movie being pulled by Marvel from their Phase III line-up, Rock ‘The Dwayne’ Johnson being cast in Sony’s Jumanji remake and more…

The Lidl car park fight scene is my favourite.
I don’t want to rub it in or anything…BUT I’VE SEEN CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR!
*does a little dance*
“Quit it, Oli, you’re raising our expectations too much,” you say out loud to this article, like a loon.
You should thank me. If you’re expectations aren’t lowered, you run the risk of being too impressed and your head exploding.
Here’s a spoiler-free mini-review in this week’s Scooperhero News – read it, watch it, subscribe…it? – and if you prefer your summaries more film-ruiny, here’s a breakdown of the mid-credits scene.
Me and Flickering Myth’s Scott Davis – spreading love even amongst battling ideologies.
One of the best parts in the film (and there are many) is Tom Holland’s Spider-Man – particularly his interplay with Tony Stark. It’s absolutely web-tastic news, then, that Robert Downey Jr. is reprising his Iron Man role in Spider-Man: Homecoming…but not so great that Michael Keaton is no longer in talks to play the film’s villain.
He already had the suit and everything.
I said in my podcast insta-review of Civil War that it was the movie Avengers: Age of Ultron should have been. That film’s director, Joss Whedon, seems to agree, admitting the movie didn’t meet his expectations.
It really could have done with more tacked on Thor sub-plots.
The next Marvel movie following Civil War is October’s Doctor Strange. We got our first trailer for the film last week, but it didn’t give much away. To give a better idea of what you can expect, here’s everything they left out from concept art trailer screened at last year’s D23 Expo.
Like…HADOUKENS!
Another thing excluded from the Doctor Strange trailer was an Asian actor playing The Ancient One. Tilda Swinton has replied to accusations of the movie’s “whitewashing” casting. Poor Marvel – they create an extra female role and they still get it wrong.
It could always be worse.
The Inhumans movie won’t be tackling Marvel’s lack of racial diversity anytime soon either, because the film has been pulled from Phase Three. Turns out Disney are making too many movies already, but the project isn’t dead. Black Bolt and Buddies will just have to wait until Phase Four.
“DON’T TAKE GROOT AWAY FROM ME, TOO!”
DC’s Green Lantern Corps movie, however, could be racially diverse from the outset. Latino Review are reporting the film will feature Hal Jordan, John Stewart and Kyle Rayner. Which means ginger Guy Gardner won’t feature. It’s a brunette-wash!
There goes the Red Lanterns.
But how can Warner Bros. make the Green Lantern franchise successful? Flickering Myth’s Anghus Houvouras thinks he has the answer: make it Harry Potter in space. They’re gonna need a hell of a lot of Floo Powder for that one.
“You’re a possessor of immense willpower, Harry!”
